Community Investments

CUMIS is committed to a making a difference in Canadian communities by investing in the development of environmental, economic, and social sustainability.  Guided by our vision to be a catalyst for a sustainable society, we focus our community investments on projects and on partnerships with organizations working to protect our environment, build a values-based
co-operative economy, and create a resilient, safe, and healthy future for all Canadians.

Our involvement in community programs is extensive, and includes donations of both time and funds. In fact, as a member of Imagine Canada, we donate a percentage of our pre-tax profits to charity.

Focused areas of giving

Our Community  Investments are  designed to help ensure we are maximizing our corporate giving efforts by focusing on three key areas:
  1. Environmental Sustainability – protecting our communities
  2. Economic Sustainability – building a co-operative economy
  3. Social Sustainability – creating a resilient, safe, and healthy future for Canadians

Community and Charitable Endeavours

As part of our Community Investments, we host the following signature event:

CUMIS Apple Day

Since 1991, CUMIS has invited local community groups and organizations onto its 15-acre orchard each autumn to pick apples for distribution at food banks, community meal kitchens, church pie sales and school nutrition programs.

A variety of cooking and eating apples - Empire, Golden Delicious, McIntosh, Mutsu, Red Delicious and Spy - from the organization's 500 apple trees are made available.

This event also gives CUMIS employees the chance to volunteer their time to help make the event a success and support their community. Hundreds of boxes of apples are picked and donated each year during Apple Day..

We also support other organizations and programs that align with our Community Investment Focus areas , including:
