As a significant and environmentally conscious landowner within the Burlington Bay watershed, CUMIS has partnered with the Bay Area Restoration Council (BARC), donating both funds and volunteer hours.
Formed in 1991, BARC works with its stakeholders to create a multi-use harbour that balances vibrant and diverse ecosystems with opportunities for public recreation along a bay that is the economic engine of our region.
In 2008, as part of BARC’s Adopt-a-Creek program, CUMIS adopted stream number E1, a feeder stream to the Grindstone Creek, which pools into the Burlington Bay. As part of this process, one day each year, CUMIS staff have the opportunity to change from their office attire into jeans and rubber boots to help clean up the stream.
