Individual Life – CUMIS Critical Care Insurance
Do you realize that prior to age 75, your risk of contracting a life-altering illness exceeds your risk of dying? Even so, contracting a life-altering illness is not something any of us like to think about. However, the reality is that it can happen to any one of us, and if it does, thanks to improvements in healthy living and medical science there is a good chance you will recover and get on with your life.
According to the Canadian Cancer Society, approximately 39 per cent of Canadian women and 44 per cent of Canadian men will develop cancer during their lifetimes, and an estimated 60 per cent of Canadians diagnosed with common cancer will survive at least five years. In addition, according to HealthCanada and The Canadian Institute for Health Information, one in four Canadians will develop heart disease in their lifetime and approximately 89 per cent of hospitalized heart attack patients survive.
But your road to recovery costs money. Treating and coping with illness can mean significant and often unexpected costs.
CUMIS Critical Care Insurance is designed to provide you with financial peace of mind so that you can deal with the unexpected costs of a critical illness, and get started on rebuilding your lifestyle as soon as possible. It provides a lump-sum cash benefit while you are living, if you happen to be diagnosed with one of the Covered Conditions or Early Intervention Conditions defined in your contract.
CUMIS offers two Critical Care plans to suit your needs, term 10 renewable to age 75 and level term to age 75.
Facing the Financial Challenges of a Critical Illness
Is your family financially equipped for the potential cost of recovering from a critical illness? Consider the potential challenge of maintaining a lifestyle that you may no longer be able to afford:
- Reduction or permanent loss of your income
- Lost income of family members caring for you
- Private nursing and medical equipment
- Insurance co-payments and deductibles
- Convalescence or physiotherapy
- Refitting your home and your car
- Relocating to a more suitable locale or climate
- Retraining for a change of profession
- Mortgage payments or a car loan
- Childcare
- Children's education
- Retirement
Critical Illness Insurance may help by providing you with the financial support to:
- Travel to get treatments that aren't available locally
- Get treatments that aren't funded by your provincial health plan
- Purchase alternative medicines and therapies
CUMIS Critical Care Insurance pays you a lump-sum tax-free benefit if you are diagnosed with one of 20 covered illnesses. This payment of $25,000 to $300,000 allows you to focus on what's important – your recovery and rebuilding your lifestyle.
