CUMIS 'Votes Earth'

March 25, 2009 – Burlington, ON –  On Saturday, March 28, 2009, The CUMIS Group Limited (CUMIS) will ‘Vote Earth’ by joining thousands of organizations across the globe in celebration of Earth Hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first ‘global election’ between Earth and global warming, and CUMIS will show its support for our planet by turning off all non-essential lights and encouraging employees to participate from their homes.

“As an environmentally-conscious organization, CUMIS strongly supports initiatives that bring awareness to the risks of climate change,” says Kenn Lalonde, President & CEO. “We are committed to ensuring that the communities in which we operate, including the global community, continue to be safe and vital for generations to come.”

This is CUMIS’ second year participating in this international event; it is one of an increasing number of environmental initiatives in which the organization participates.

In 2007, WWF-Australia pioneered Earth Hour. Almost 2.3 million Australians participated, including more than 2,100 businesses, resulting in a 10.2 per cent reduction on the electrical grid and saving 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide – the equivalent of taking about 50,000 cars off the road for an hour.
