Investing in our community

We are making a difference in Canadian communities by investing in the development of environmental, economic, and social sustainability. Guided by our vision to be a catalyst for a sustainable society, we support projects and partner with organizations whose mission is to protect our environment, build a values-based co-operative economy and create a healthy future for all Canadians. And, as a member of Imagine Canada, we donate a percentage of our pre-tax profits to charity.

Our three areas of giving

We invest in three areas to maximize our corporate giving efforts.

Environmental Sustainability
Protecting our communities

We are working with stakeholders to reduce the degradation of our natural environment by decreasing our negative impact and supporting the creation of healthy, resilient communities for future generations.

Economic Sustainability
building a co-operative economy

We are supporting the growth of co-operatives, social enterprises and charitable non-profits to help build a community-focused economy for a more inclusive society.

Social Sustainability
creating a healthy future for Canadians

We are helping individuals protect their assets through financial planning and helping communities stay resilient by supporting programs that promote health and safety.

CUMIS in the Community

While we are a leading provider in the protection and business solutions space, you can always find us in the community, too.

CUMIS Apple Day

Every year since 1991, CUMIS volunteers have donated thousands of pounds of Empire, Golden Delicious, McIntosh, Mutsu and Red Delicious apples from our 15-acre orchard to food and school nutrition programs.

Creditor Relief Program

In 2016, we began offering relief support to ensure continued insurance coverage for regions affected by natural disasters and hardship. Partnering with credit unions, CUMIS extends the term of insurance to match a member’s loan payment deferrals, at no additional cost. The program has recently been active in response to COVID-19, BC mill closures and the Fort McMurray fires.
